South African rock icons Springbok Nude Girls have just released their new, highly anticipated album Partypocalypse. The first new studio recording in 13 years, has already been hailed as their best release to date by fans, peers, and media alike. Today sees the release of the video for the hit Crystal Ball – shot, directed, and edited by renowned artist and sculptor Lionel Smit, who worked on both the Emerging Submarines and Rolling Thunder videos.

The news rips through the local music scene, devastating countless fans who simply aren’t ready to say goodbye to their favourite alt-punk disciples. Fast forward a couple of months and they’re playing their farewell tour. You’re scramming to get tickets to see them play one last show, but just when you think that it’s all over, they announce one more string of concerts, and then another, and then another. So you ask yourself, what’s actually going on here?

In my time writing reviews I’ve come to expect nothing short of madness from Springbok Nude Girls videos but “Crystal Ball” goes off script, somewhat. That’s not to say it’s done away with any extravagances, its approach is just more muted.
