RELIVE THE ALBUM: SPRINGBOK NUDE GIRLS’ GODDANK VIR KLANK/THE FAT LADY SINGS IS TESTAMENT TO THEIR ENDURING INFLUENCE OVER ROCK MUSIC IN SA
Picture this: it’s 2001, South Africa’s most definitive rock band just announced that they’re splitting up, and their final offering to us is a Best Of album called Goddank Vir Klank/The Fat Lady Sings. The news rips through the local music scene, devastating countless fans who simply aren’t ready to say goodbye to their favourite alt-punk disciples. But it’s the truth – the Springbok Nude Girls are over.
Fast forward a couple of months and they’re playing their farewell tour. You’re scramming to get tickets to see them play one last show, but just when you think that it’s all over, they announce one more string of concerts, and then another, and then another. So you ask yourself, what’s actually going on here?
